Common Washer Issues

Start by checking if the lid or door is securely closed. As a safety feature, the washer will not spin if it’s open.  If the dispenser drawer is open on a front load washer, this can prevent spinning as well.

Sometimes an out of balance load will also prevent the washer from spinning.  This can be resolved by rearranging the items inside, adding one or two items to help balance a small load, or removing several items from a large bulky load.

There are two valves connected to your washer – hot and cold.  If these valves a blocked or damaged, they will prevent the water from flowing into the machine.  Outside of the valves, there is a hose and a filter that should be checked for blockages.  Simply removing the hose and clearing the blockage could resolve the issue.
This most often is related to three things.  The first is the release drain is clogged or bent.  A common blockage is infant or baby socks.  It is recommended to use a washer bag for small items to prevent these types of blockages.

Secondly, the water pump may need to be replaced.  Lastly, an assembly piece or pump could need to be replaced or repaired.

Most often when this happens during a load, it is caused by an item inside or an unbalanced load.  You can stop the cycle and redistribute the items inside, remove a noise maker or bulky items.

If the noise can he heard while running the machine when empty, then I professional should be contacted to verify what part needs to be replaced.

Don’t worry – It happens to a lot of people!  We get a lot of complaints about high-efficiency washers giving off an unpleasant odor. High efficiency washers are designed to use less water, and therefore can’t always wash away the residue left from dirt and soap. This residue can build up and cause the odor people complain about.

We recommend keeping your washer door open to prevent mold from developing around the seal as well.

We recommend regular use of Affresh Washer cleaning tablets, which are specifically designed to get rid of smelly residue. Our technicians carry these on their trucks so they’ll have them on-site if you need.
